FTTH Technical Due Diligence

Sector-specialist network depth, three scope tiers, scoped to your network and the question you need answered.

Who this is for

For PE and infrastructure investors, fund portfolio teams, and altnet operators - acquiring, validating, or expanding a UK altnet network.

An FTTH network's value sits in its passive plant, its active estate, and the operational records that tie them together. We review all three - depth and breadth scoped to your situation. Three scope tiers under the same banner, sized differently for different buyers.

Most due-diligence on UK altnets comes from generalist Big-4 teams. Our work brings sector-specialist depth: PIA-fluent, build-experience-aware, and AI-augmented across data-room ingestion and records validation.

Three scope tiers

Sized differently for different buyers

Tier 1 - Full TDD

#full

End-to-end review of passive plant, active estate, and operational records. RAG-rated findings with capex / opex remediation appetite. Typically a ~100-page deliverable.

Use it when

You're acquiring a UK altnet and need full network depth defensible to IC, lenders, or partner committee.

Deliverables

  • Passive-plant review (fibre routes, splice records, civils, site survey sample)
  • Active-estate review (transmission, OLT/ONT estate, exchange/FEX/FAC inventory, performance baseline)
  • Operational records audit (build records, asset register, BSS/OSS data quality)
  • RAG-rated findings register
  • Capex / opex remediation appetite with sized line items

Buyer

Pre-investment deal team. Time-boxed to deal exclusivity.

Tier 2 - Independent Second-Opinion TDD

#second-opinion

Lighter, validation-focused review. Sector-specialist independent check on top of an in-house engineering team or generalist DD provider.

Use it when

Your in-house engineering team has flagged specific concerns and you want a sector-specialist independent check - without commissioning a full TDD.

Deliverables

  • Targeted scope agreed up front (3-6 named workstreams)
  • Sample-based validation across passive and active
  • Independent assessment of in-house team's findings
  • Short-form deliverable (typically 20-40 pages, decision-focused)

Buyer

Head of Infrastructure, Group CTO, or Investment Director where in-house engineering is already running point.

Tier 3 - Rapid Footprint / Site DD

#rapid-footprint

Visual topology view, PIA data overlay, on-the-ground survey, and a go / no-go report on expansion areas. Days, not months.

Use it when

You're a portfolio team or operator deciding where to expand next - and need ground truth on candidate areas before committing capex.

Deliverables

  • Topology / footprint visualisation per candidate area
  • PIA data overlay (M1 lens) - duct/pole capacity, accessibility, build-vs-overlay economics
  • Sample on-the-ground survey
  • Go / no-go scoring with capex ranges

Buyer

Portfolio Asset Manager (fund), COO, or Head of Network Planning. Not transaction-driven.

How we size an engagement

Scoped to your network's specifics, not a fixed package. Key dimensions:

  • UPRNs in the targeted area
  • RFS footprint (homes / businesses passed)
  • Active customer base
  • Exchange / FEX / FAC count
  • Primary Node (PN) count

Tell us your network and the question. We'll scope from there.

Why us

Three credentials brought to every TDD engagement

M1

PIA-fluent reviews

Active Openreach PIA portal experience means our reviews carry real insight on build-vs-overlay economics, overlap-area network choice, and PIA operations - not academic commentary.

M2

Tier-1 migration lens

Hands-on Tier-1 UK altnet migration experience informs how we read operational records and integration risk - we know what fails at scale.

M3

AI-augmented data-room

Deeper records and document review on the same calendar - our team handles larger data-rooms than traditional analyst-team boutiques can on the same fee.
